Brad Clegg

Chairperson - Mr Brad Clegg


Brad became involved in life saving after his daughter joined a life saving club approximately ten years ago, which led to Brad becoming a fully qualified life saver. Brad is actively involved in beach life saving, however he has also competed in the sport of Pool Life Saving, and in 2008 won a gold medal at the World Life Saving Championships in Berlin (Rescue 2008).

Professionally Brad is a electrician however now works in a managerial role for multi-national company Kentz (which is part of the SNC Lavalin Group). Brad is involved in the management of significant large scale infrastructure projects which involves complex negotiations, commercial accumen and managing people.

Patricia Barry

Director of Administration - Mrs Patricia Barry B.Ed


Patricia worked as a government auditor and later completed teacher training as a mature student in the UK. After emigrating to Australia in the 1980's she completed her B.Ed and Post Graduate studies. Her work experience includes Head of Department and Secretary of a life Saving Club for many years.

Patricia became involved in life saving teaching RLSS courses at school in England, and later in the early 1980's in Australia due to her daughter joining a life saving Club. She is still an active patrolling member today. Her passion involves teaching community courses where she is heavily involved in conducting the Royal Life Saving Grey Medallion Course, and tutoring four classes with University of the Third Age.

Paul Barry

Director of Finance - Mr Paul Barry B.Bus (Acty)


Paul is a qualified accountant having completed his Business Accounting Degree in the 1990's and having worked as a public accountant (compliance), however he now works as Senior Manager in a major financial institution.

Paul is very active in operational life saving having held numerous operational position including Club Captain and Chief Instructor. He is also active on the Society's State Board and National Sports and Audit Committees.

Paula Koda

Director (1) - Mrs Paula Koda


Paula is the President of Ithaca - Caloundra City Life Saving Club having held the position for three seasons.

Paula has been visiting Caloundra since her childhood, with her husband and two daughters they have lived in Caloundra since 1997 with their youngest daughter having come through the Royal Life Saving Junior Lifeguard program.

Over her working life Paula has worked in retail, property management and the travel industry; and when her youngest daughter started school she took a position in school administration. Paula has also worked in the cosmetic industry for over 20 years where she held multiple management and training roles. Currently Paula works as a Civil Marriage Celebrant based here on the Sunshine Coast, she is passionate about Caloundra and is working on raising the profile of Caloundra as a premier destination for romance by being on the steering committee of Caloundra Wedding Collective, and the Romance panel of SCDL.

Mr Calum Docherty

Director (2) - Mr Calum Docherty



Calum is the Club Captain of Whitsunday Coast Life Saving Club (formerly known as Airlie Beach Life Saving Club) and has been running the club for two years. He has also worked as a Lifeguard and also as a supervisor for Camp America.

Dr Shayne Baker OAM

Director (3) - Dr Shayne Baker OAM DipRLSS, DipTeach, DipBus, BEd, MEd, DProf



Shayne is the National Education Advisor for Royal Life Saving Society Australia and serves on the Life Saving Rescue Commission (Education Committee) of the International Life Saving Federation. Shayne is an active life saver and is the Club Captain of Neptune Royal Life Saving Club Inc which is based at Tallebudgera on the Gold Coast.

After an extensive career in education and training and a strong background in flexible blended learning he now owns his own publishing and work based learning consultancy business and works with enterprises, schools, colleges, TAFEs and universities to achieve learning outcomes that meet the workplaces' professional learning needs.
